Outreach

POD provides outreach to injection and other drugs users and their friends, family members and loved ones. This is done on a weekly basis on Saturday in San Francisco and Sunday in Oakland. Trained outreach workers carry a variety of supplies including various sized syringes, safer injection materials, safer crack use materials, condoms and safer sex supplies, wound care supplies, basic and feminine hygiene supplies, and educational literature. In addition POD outreach workers provide folks with HIV testing and counseling, food and water as well as health education and referrals to a host of local services.

Home Delivery

In Oakland, outreach workers provide syringe home delivery service on Thursday evening. Clients are provided with access to all of the materials and services provided during our street outreach. To call for an appointment or to find out more information please call our toll free number:

Syringe Disposal and Environmental Clean-Up

Points of Distribution takes community concerns about proper sharps disposal seriously and POD outreach workers offer bio-waste containers to participants as well as container pick-up, bio-waste disposal services and environmental cleanup in the areas where we do outreach.

HIV Testing and Counseling

Through a collaboration with Casa Segura/ HEPPAC in Oakland POD is able to provide HIV and HCV testing as a part of regular outreach and home delivery services.

Overdose Prevention Materials and Education

Based on the trainings developed by the DOPE project and the Chicago Recovery Alliance POD outreach workers provide on-the-spot OD prevention education and life-saving OD prevention materials on a weekly basis.
